Steve Smith

With the NFL free agency on shutdown, Steve Smith's future as a Giant is in limbo. He is currently recovering from the post microfracture surgery he had in December.

With all that I read, his rehab is slowly, but surely moving along. That's good. No need to rush. Simple rehab after a delicate surgery. Take time to heal.

Smith is one hell of a slot receiver that really makes the other receivers job on the team easier. When the Giants lost Smith you could see the strain on Hakeem Nicks game in the TD department. Nicks had 9 TDs when Smith is playing to 2 TDs when Smith was not on the field for the 2010-2011 season. Just something I noticed.

I am not taking anything away from Hakeem "My son Works!" Nicks. No way... he is awesome, but my observation and frustration was Nicks' TD production dropped. In Smith's absence The Giants did not have a 1-2 or 1-2-3 punch at wide receiver.

Free agency contract, surgery and all... Smith is definitely worth more to the Giants this year than a second round draft pick (if lost). His value on the field as an experienced, proven wide receiver and a leader definitely out weigh any draft pick can bring.

The Giants WR Corps has the talent in Smith, Nicks, Manningham, Barden and Hagan, but a team without leaders is like a foot without a big toe. And Steve Smith is that Big Toe. I think that we owe a big round of applause to our big toe... Steve Smith.

Dez Bryant being sued by New York

Based jewelry company.

According to ESPN and every blog known to man, Dez Bryant wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys is being sued for non payment of his $267,000 jewelery purchases from A+A Diamonds.

When it rains it pours. This in light of his Ninety Day Northpark Mall Ban. What next... income tax problems and banned from the local Roller Rink?

Hey Dez, there are plenty of malls you can hang out this weekend. Just stay away from that one particular mall. Keep smiling or just pull your pants up a bit....

Ah he's bored. He has to hang at malls- no practice. How can he pay his bills... he isn't being paid. There's a LOCKOUT for the love of God!

Jerry and his coaches can't help him. There's a LOCKOUT for the love of God. Who can help him...

Deon Sanders put his hands up and quit and I doubt Roy Williams will help him- you know, with that whole shoulder pad incident.

Dez, my best advice during these tough times are ... drink heavily. Make it all go away.

NFL Draft 2011

Due to the loss of David Carr and Fred Robbins the New York Giants will receive two extra sixth round picks. Pick 198 and 202. That will make a total of 3 picks in the sixth round.

Memorable New York Giants 6 round picks:

David Tyree - "The Gamer". Mostly known for the Catch in Super Bowl XLII, but more importantly a Pro Bowl Special Teams player.

Dhani Jones -Actor/Model/Linebacker

Charles Way- Fullback. Great blocker and still big part of the Giants organization.

Howard Cross- Tight End. (Easy Richard)

Scott Brunner- Quarterback blast from the past. Mentor to many QBs at the high school and collegiate level. The most notable- NFL Quarterback, Joe Flacco.

Big P says Akeem Ayers or Mark Ingram at 19

Our draft pick prognosticator, Peter finally narrowed down his choices to two picks. We heard rumors that he wanted Ingram. He posted last month, "So, I wouldn't be surprised if G-Men picks Mark Ingram (Ala RB, former Mark Ingram's son) in 1st round. I'm not saying it is my pick but...".

He hinted The NY Giants have not picked an O-Lineman in the first round in years!

Then he names (4 days late) Akeem Ayers for final choice.

Peter was that delay due to the fact you really wanted Mark Ingram, but were afraid to make the command decision? Did you fear the backlash from fellow peers. How could we take a RB!!!!

I knew Akeem wasn't your only pick, I knew you had someone else in mind, but this game works in 3's. We need a tiebreaker! Make another pick! Or we will make yet another poll!

Ha ha you knew I'd ask. Pick Peter Pick.

My 1st-rd pick for this April 2011

Since there are too many unknown variables: CBA, FA (or lack of due to lockout) signings and/or trades, health-status/injuries on OL (O'Hara, Seubert, Koets, Andrews), LB with little proven depth behind Boley and Goff (Bulluck is probably a goner), and top two OT/C picks probably gone by 19th (Solder and Pouncey), plus I hate to steal thunders from my other two BBWC brothers, my 1st-rd pick is:

Akeem Ayers (UCLA): Listed at 6-4, 255 pounds, Ayers is an outside linebacker with impressive size, athletic skill, and versatility, who can play either 4-3 or 3-4 defensive scheme.

Then again, I would be very happy to be wrong with either above OT/C.
Go Big Blue.

Rahim Responds to Franchise Tag...Peter still has not made a Pick!

Anthony Castonzo

Most offensive tackles average a 26 on the Wonderlic Intelligence test. Anthony Castonzo scored an impressive 41. Can he play QB?

First pick should be an Offensive Lineman. Offensive Tackle seems to be a draft priority for some Giants fans. Well, maybe not Peter, but March 17th has come and gone and we need some draft talk.

Nate Solder may not be at the 19th spot. The Patriots have been known to swipe fan favorites from the Giants in several drafts. Now I realize, I am not thinking outside the box on Castonzo.

Castonzo and Tyron Smith are on ever other mock draft on the web. Nonetheless, I think Castonzo has some other traits that might make him high on the Giants board:

  • Fills a need.
  • Smart-41 on The Wonderlic Intelligence test.
  • Good Combine- I was impressed with his and Solder's combine.
  • Fits the Coughlin's hard nose, disciplined, Boston College type player- ie., Mathias Kiwanuka and Chris Snee.

Now that would have described our perfect MLB. Nonetheless, despite not seeing a Linebacker that wowed me for the 19th pick. Looking at potential First Round Draft Picks, my draft board order for Linemen would be:
  1. Colorado OT - Nate Solder
  2. Boston College OT - Anthony Castonzo
  3. Florida OL - Mike Pouncey- Thought he would have been a nice pick last year.

Interesting fact... the Giants have met with Mike Pouncey and scheduled a meeting with Anthony Castonzo...

What am I nuts? We're not drafting these guys! That is Giants draft 101. Smokescreen
a la Reese. They must be taking another pass rushing Defensive End!

Back to the Drawing Board...

Where's Peter's Pick?
